firewall
( sygate firewall ) a firewall blocks all your ports.. you can set certain ports to be open if you want. for instance to set up a ftp site or a http site.. you will need to allow port 21 for ftp and 80 for http.. this is very important to have.. a friend of mine said it best in aol tech chat.. this is a internet condom and there are whores hitting you at all times.. they can sometimes penetrate it.. but 99% of the time it keeps them out.. if you dont want to download this big of a program.. atleast download a portblocker.. it is small in size from analogx.com..
a external hardware firewall router is alot more secure then a software one like zone alarm or sygate.. if your on broadband i would get a external firewall.. a software firewall like this one when someone trys to connect to your pc they start to log on and it boots them a hardware firewall wont let them connect to your pc.. if your interested goto your nearest computer store.. and ask them about external router/firewalls.. |
intrusion detection system
( threatfire *ids* ) a ids *intruder detection system* is a program that runs and tells you if someone is in your pc. and you can boot them from your pc.. a firewall is great but it dont always stop someone getting in... it just helps prevent them.. its good to have a firewall too.. but this will alert you if someone is actually in your pc.. |
port listener alarm
( port listener ) this is a small program that puts a dummy server up that looks like a trojan to a hacker. but when they try to connect to it you can have an alarm go off. or if they run a port scanner on you it will sound an alarm. it also records there ip address. |
port scanner
( ip prober ) a port scanner is used to see how many servers you have active on your machine or other machines on network. you can detect trojans fast this way. |
proxy
( multi proxy ) a proxy server. i just a server ran on another machine.. you connect to that computer before connecting to a site or server.. so it will mask your ip address. also try this site. nothing to install. |
anti-virus
( avg anti-virus ) a anti virus is to remove virus's from the computer.. a virus is just a program made to do things you dont want it to do.. some are not that destructive.. others can be a mofo.. this anti virus will keep known virus's from installing.. |

( port-detective ) use this is check your computer for open ports and to test your firewall see if there is a weakness.. to help test your security... |
spyware remover
( ad-aware 2007 ) spyware hides in your registry.. and they log everything you type.. sites you visit.. file names of what you load.. and anything else.. it is a must to run these before ever buying something online.. spybot is also a free spyware program.. i would use them together.. |
sdfix
( sdfix ) this is a free tool that cleans trojans and other virus's. and it repairs registry. extract the files, reboot computer in safe mode and click RunThis.bat from where you extracted it too. |
spyware sheild
( snoopfree shield ) this program runs on your tray and alerts you if a keylogger or spyware is detected. also here is a program that blocks known spyware sites. and helps keep your computer from even getting spyware, keyloggers, or adware. |
hijackthis
( hijackthis ) this is a program that makes a log of your computer lists every process running. and what add-ons is in your browser. that you can view or post into a computer help forum to get help. |
encrypt files
( finecrypt ) this will encrypt your files.. so someone will have to enter a password to view your data.. it will add to your security.. |
secure messageing
( aim / aim encrypt ) this encrypts aol instant messenger.. both you and the person you want to talk to, has to have the aim encrypt for it to work.. so if someone is logging your ims they cant get any info.. |

( thunderbird email ) from the same makers of firefox (mozilla) this is a secure email client. get away from anything microsoft related. they make os's and programs to be upgraded for more money. free and open source programs are tested by millions and updated all the time. |

( proxomitron popup blocker ) this program blocks pop ups.. pop ups can download browser hijackers, spyware and all kinds of crap.. if you hit the wrong buttons.. like ok download xxxdialer.. (sure) i want that.. umm no? |
here is a few tips to help you protect your computer..
put a password in bios.. and if you ever boot your system and the bios password
has changed or is not there. then someone got into your computer while you was
not there and could have installed something. like a trojan.
do not ever download files in email that you do not know the person. and if you
can ask your freind, if they really did send the file your about to download. if you
think its bogus. because they might have a virus, that emails everyone in there
address book the virus on their system.
if your ever prompted to download a plugin, or need to install and run this to get the
information from the site that is a downloader, do not say yes. now sometimes it
might be a flash update to view a video, make good judgment if you think its good
then do it. or just download the update straight from microsoft.com a downloader
is a small program, that a dial up user could download in a few seconds. but it will
download trojans and virus's then install them into your system. then they own you.
watch out downloading things from forien sites, or untrusted sites. they can and
most of the time have virus's and spyware in them. but even trusted sites can have
virus's in them. but they have anti virus's and security software running all the time.
but imagin someone hacking into a trusted download site. millions download that
file a day then they download that file, and add something to it. then reupload it.
how many people will it effect? sad thing is, that this does happen. it just dont go
public. lawsuit lawsuit.
